The Water Systems Technician is based at one of two Amentum sites in Iraq and serve the Operations and Maintenance Support Services (OMSS) contract in support of the U.S. Department of State/Defense. This position is responsible to perform work aligned to preventive maintenance, condition monitoring, repair, installation and modernization of all water purification and wastewater treatment equipment. The Water Systems Technician reports to the Water Systems Supervisor. The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned but are not necessarily all inclusive.

DUTIES:

  • Develop comprehensive knowledge of site water and wastewater treatment maintenance and repairs tasks, including:
    • Reverse Osmosis Water Purification Units (ROWPU)
    • Ground Water Well
    • Water Storage Tanks
    • Domestic water pumps, valves, and other equipment
    • Cold water distribution pipes
    • Manholes
    • Exterior clean-outs
    • Holding tanks
    • Lift stations
    • Effluent tanks
    • Wastewater treatment system
  • Ensure the water supply, purification, and distribution system is operational twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, three hundred sixty-five days a year (24X7X365) with N+1 redundancy.
  • Ensure sludge disposal and effluent comply with Department of State (DOS) requirements and local laws.
  • Test water quality to ensure potable water meets the requirements and guidelines specified by the DOS Drinking Water Safety Program governed by the Office of Safety/Health Environmental Management (SHEM).
  • Collect, test, and record water samples to evaluate necessary adjustment of chemical feed rates.
  • Collect and record various systems data according to prescribed schedules.
  • Analyze, summarize, and submit written reports using collected data.
  • Interpret system operation readings and recommend corrective actions.
  • Report Statement of Work (SOW) noncompliance to Amentum management.
  • Observe and test the functions of motors, controllers, and components to verify their safe and efficient operation.
  • Make frequent technical decisions based on observations and analysis.
  • Operate multiple water treatment systems, raw water wells, chemical feed systems, and monitors storage tank levels throughout the site.
  • Operate machines and equipment to purify and clarify domestic consumption water.
  • Perform maintenance and calibration on in-plant water systems and equipment.
  • Repair and replace broken, damaged, or malfunctioning water department systems, elements, components, and devices.
  • Perform assigned housekeeping duties.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as material orders, inventory, and scheduling.
  • Demonstrate effective, timely, and respectful interactions with Amentum employees and site staff.
  • Maintain the technical library documents and record-keeping for all procedures necessary to accomplish assigned responsibilities.
  • Assume facility custodianship of work areas, tools, equipment, and spare parts.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.

REQUIRED:

Minimum Acceptable Experience Level:

  • Two (2) years’ experience in water purification and water treatment operations.  Verifiable experience or certificate is required.
  • Three (3) years' experience in municipal water treatment, municipal water distribution, and/or operation of well systems, water treatment operation, and repair in an overseas location.  Verifiable experience or certificate is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledgeable of the principles and processes involved in the repair, maintenance, installation, and modernization of water/wastewater treatment for buildings and grounds at an overseas facility.
  • Knowledgeable of responsibilities, principles, and processes for supporting overseas contracts.
  • Skills for effective communication and organization of department activities.
  • Skills in computer use, such as Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and independent decision-making.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment demanding multi-tasking and rapid adaptation to changing priorities and schedules.
  • Ability to demonstrate cross-cultural sensitivity and adapt to an international perspective.
  • Ability to function as an active team member.
  • Ability to challenge existing work practices and innovate solutions.
  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • Certification in water purification and water treatment operations.

Passport, Licenses and Certifications:

  • As part of pre-contingency requirements, by the time the visa process starts, candidates must possess a valid passport with a minimum of 18 months remaining to expiration date with 8 blank pages.
  • Valid drivers’ license from Home of Record.

Security Vetting:

  • Already possess a US Government issued security clearance or Moderate Risk Public Trust (MRPT) or be able to obtain a favorable MRPT certification or US Government clearance prior to being hired is required for the position.
  • Must maintain eligibility at the required certification or clearance level for the duration of the contract.

Language Skills:

  • Satisfactory English proficiency to meet job requirements and to adhere and comply with safety, health, and security measures.

Medical:

  • Successfully complete and pass the medical and dental examinations as required by Amentum and our customer for deployment to Iraq.
  • Must maintain physical and dental requirements for duration of deployment.

DESIRED:

  • Previous out of home country experience and previous work experience in harsh environmental conditions are a plus.
  • Experience working with PAE / Amentum.
