This role involves providing preventative maintenance and mechanical repairs for specialized fire vehicles, heavy fire apparatus, and related equipment, reporting to the Vehicle Maintenance Manager. The duties outlined are a representation of the assigned work level and not an exhaustive list.

DUTIES:
  • Ensure workplace safety is a top priority.
  • Adhere to Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements.
  • Identify maintenance needs and perform required maintenance and repairs on fire vehicles and equipment.
  • Check operational efficiency of fire vehicles and mechanical equipment.
  • Manage stock, order, and maintain replacement parts.
  • Repair and adjust engines, transmissions, brake systems, hydraulic systems, and more.
  • Perform general maintenance on fire equipment.
  • Conduct vehicle systems and component failure analyses.
  • Ensure fire apparatus meets N.F.P.A. standards.
  • Respond to emergency callouts for mechanic services and perform field repairs.
  • Provide input on budget, equipment needs, and specifications.
  • Offer guidance to staff and provide training as needed.
  • Attend training sessions to maintain skills and certifications.
  • Assist in identifying training opportunities for mechanics.
  • Maintain service logs and records.
  • Keep work area clean and organized.
  • Assist in training lower-level workers.
  • Test drive vehicles.
  • Observe safety procedures and rules.
  • Perform additional assigned duties and projects.
REQUIRED:
  • Minimum Acceptable Experience Level: Five (5) years' experience as an Emergency Vehicle Technician or ten (10) years' experience as a vehicle mechanic.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Skilled in repair and maintenance of fire vehicle apparatus and equipment.
    • Proficient in record-keeping and work order systems.
    • Knowledgeable in diagnostic software for automotive fleet and heavy vehicle equipment.
    • Familiar with N.F.P.A. standards.
    • Capable of operating fire vehicles and equipment.
    • Ability to diagnose and repair modern fire apparatus electrical systems.
    • Skilled in using mechanic tools and diagnostic equipment.
    • Efficient in planning, organizing, and coordinating work.
    • Proficient in automotive repairs and maintenance.
    • Customer service-oriented.
    • Capable of lifting heavy equipment.
    • Skilled in computer applications.
    • Experienced in supporting vehicle maintenance functions.
    • Adaptable to fast-paced environments.
    • Cross-culturally sensitive.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.

    • Excellent communication skills.
  • Education: Certified Emergency Vehicle Technician with valid certificate.
  • Passport, Licenses and Certifications: Candidates must have a valid passport, driver's license, and truck driver's license.
  • Security Vetting: Must have or be able to obtain a US Government security clearance.
  • Language Skills: Proficient in English for job requirements and safety compliance.
  • Medical: Must pass medical and dental exams as required for deployment to Iraq.

DESIRED:

  • Relevant overseas automotive mechanical experience.
  • Hands-on experience with OSHKOSH or E-One equipment.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Previous work in harsh environmental conditions abroad.
  • Experience working overseas.
