The Groundskeeper, Lead will be based at one of three Amentum sites in Iraq and serve the Operations and Maintenance Support Services (OMSS) contract in support of the U.S. Department of State. This position will be responsible for maintaining safe and attractive grounds at the assigned site. The duties include the care of trees, shrubs, flowers, and lawns as well as planting of grass, flowers, etc. This position will report to the Groundskeeping Supervisor or Site Services Supervisor. The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.

DUTIES:

  • Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.
  • Comply with all Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements and goals. Provide information and materials to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation.
  • Mow, trim, and edge grass.
  • Plant new materials, upgrade, and water and fertilize existing planted areas.
  • Trim trees, prune shrubs and annual plantings, mow turfs.
  • Pull weeds and/or apply weed control, including spot-spraying weeds. Prepare and treat soil for planting.
  • Operate and maintain power equipment and hand tools, including tractors, trucks, power mower, edger, trimmer, blower, chain saw, hedger, digging tools, compaction tools, and other equipment to perform various maintenance duties.
  • Make minor repairs and adjustments to tools and equipment used.
  • Sweep walkways and leave areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Remove debris and litter from street right-of-ways, parks, street medians, lawns, and other areas.
  • Maintain street medians, including planting and weeding, as well as removing trash.
  • Maintain outdoor furniture, road signs, and guardrails. During winter season, provide tree and/or plant protection.
  • Prepare athletic fields for organized use.
  • Clean restrooms and replenish paper dispensers and other supplies as needed.
  • Assist with street and utility maintenance functions in emergency situations.
  • Maintain and repair structures, restrooms, and other facilities associated with the site.
  • Assist other maintenance sections with personnel and equipment for special projects or during emergency periods.
  • Escort un-badged or subcontract personnel while they perform other functions in the compound.
  • Escort persons and help visitors and customers.
  • Assist with ensuring site facilities are secure and in accordance with Compound security requirements and assist security operations personnel with facility security alarm inspections and key/lock control, if requested.
  • Maintain a "line-of-sight" of all individuals being escorted. Do not leave the un-cleared individual that is being escorted until the Escort has either been relieved by another Escort or by an individual that understands all the responsibilities of being an Escort (e.g. Armed Guard, Security Officer, etc.).
  • Direct escorted individuals during an emergency, such as a building fire, to the proper assembly area based on the Compound's emergency action plan.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.

REQUIRED:

  • Minimum Acceptable Experience Level: Zero (0) to two (2) years' experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Capable of performing heavy physical labor, including lifting up to 70 pounds and carrying materials and equipment.
    • Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a landscaping/grounds field and experience applying these concepts in a desert environment.
    • Demonstrated proven ability to operate all tools and equipment with competency.
    • Knowledge of principles and processes involved in supporting contract responsibilities at an overseas facility.
    • Experience providing excellent customer services.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules.
    • Cross-cultural sensitivity with an international perspective.
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
    • Computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Word and Excel.
    • Ability to become an active and functioning member of a team.
    • Ability to be innovative and be an agent for change.
    • Expert communication skills to facilitate and disseminate information.
  • Education: A high school diploma or GED.
  • Licenses and Certifications:
    • Valid drivers' license from Home of Record.
    • A pesticide applicator's license is highly desirable and may be required.
  • Security Vetting: Already possess a US Government issued security clearance or Moderate Risk Public Trust (MRPT) or be able to obtain a favorable MRPT certification or US Government clearance prior to being hired is required for the position. Must maintain eligibility at the required certification or clearance level for the duration of the contract.
  • Language Skills: Satisfactory English proficiency to meet job requirements and to adhere and comply with safety, health, and security measures.
  • Medical: Successfully complete and pass the medical and dental examinations as required by Amentum and our customer for deployment to Iraq. Must maintain physical and dental requirements for duration of deployment.

DESIRED:

  • Previous out of home country experience and previous work experience in harsh environmental conditions are a plus.
  • Experience working with Amentum.

WORKING AND LIVING CONDITIONS:

This position may be located in a war zone, in an environment with harsh and dangerous working and living conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly be exposed to extreme and austere desert-like environment. Temperatures can reach degrees Fahrenheit/5055 degrees Celsius during the summer months. Employees must be willing and able to perform regular job requirements in this austere, extreme environment, as well as willing and able to deploy to Iraq for extended periods. Work schedules are a minimum of 6 days per week and 10 hours per day, while some jobs have higher daily and weekly minimums. Employees must be willing and able to perform physical activities including, but not limited to, heavy lifting and moving of items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum; climbing in and out of equipment; crawling; and working outdoors. This includes being able to lift and carry 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods of time and being capable of running and 'duck & cover' during emergencies without putting oneself or others at risk.
