Summary:
Responsible for the safe, efficient, and profitable operation of the terminals on a shift basis, in-line with the strategy outlined by the Terminal Manager.
- Ensures proper coordination with the shipping lines and agents regarding vessel schedules and the submission of documents within the agreed cut-off times.
- Prepares berthing assignments and preliminary work plans based on the preliminary advice regarding the vessels' arrival and the cargo forecast.
- Provides assistance to the port authority marine department during the berthing and sailing of all vessels.
- Monitors the weather and alerts all operations and engineering departments of any potentially dangerous conditions.
- Attends the regular operations meetings to discuss terminal strategy and work plan implementation.
- Coordinates with CFS for the internal movement of LCL containers and other containers requiring stripping at CFS for proper monitoring and recording.
- In consultation with Terminal Management, prepare the vessel discharging and loading programs and ensure that they are properly executed.
- Ensures that accurate and complete reports and information are forwarded to all concerned parties.
- Ensures that gate movements (Truck in/Truck Out) are running with minimum delays and maintain the smooth flow of traffic at all times.
- Monitors vessel and yard operations and submits periodic reports of accomplishments and problems encountered.
- Close liaison with the Training & Safety Department to ensure that maximum possible training is conducted on each shift.
- Closely liaise with the engineering department to assist with all maintenance schedules.
- Regularly inspect the yard stacking areas to ensure cleanliness and orderliness.
- Responsible for completing and publishing the berthing schedule as and when required.
- Performs other duties as required.
Educational Background
Degree level or equivalent qualification with extensive practical experience accompanied by industry-related qualifications.
Technical Qualification / Certification
Preference would be given to candidates with IOSH - Managing Safely certificate and other port-specific qualifications.
Related Work Experience
- A minimum of 7 years in shipping, port, or container terminal operations.
- Must have prior experience with terminal operating systems, preferably MACH.
