Job Role:

To operate and maintain the facilities in the Control Room and/or field, through established Procedures in order to produce power and water safely, efficiently and within the strict environment and contractual limits.

Task and Duties

a) Safety:


• Safety is a top priority for the DCS Operator that overrides production and schedule considerations. It includes personal safety of the people assigned to the start-up, shutdowns or special daily activities as well as operational/process safety.

b) Operation:


• Consistently read & follow all operating procedures and departmental instructions


• Recommends changes to operating and departmental procedures that will improve the safety and effectiveness of the operations.

Water


• Operates the MSF, MED and co-ordinates with Local Water Operator for sea water intake /Trash rack activities as well as Auxiliaries hypo, lime, CO2 in a safe, economical and reliable manner.


• Analyzes the log report to pin point any problems and takes immediate actions as delegated to avoid trips / disturbance that could lead into loss of time & revenue.


• Calculates the daily water production according to the time ensuring that production covers the required level.

Power


• Operates the power plant (GT's/ HRSG's/ ST's) and BOP in a safe, economical and reliable manner.


• Calculates the daily individual units power/steam generation and gas/ liquid fuel consumption and submits to Shift Manager


• Analyses the log report to pin point any problems and takes immediate actions as delegated to avoid trips / disturbance that could lead into lose of lives & revenue.


• Calculates the daily power / steam generation according to the time ensuring that generation covers the required level

Requirements

High School Technical Diploma in Power (preferably) OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Experience:


•At least 3 years' experience in plant operations and maintenance;


•Combined cycle plant experience preferential;


•At least 3 years relevant experience in a power generating plant of Petrochemical Industry;


•Hands-on experience with troubleshooting/repair and performing preventative maintenance on electrical control circuits, motors, transformers and high voltage breakers.

Skills/Knowledge:

a. Soft skills:


• Communication: English is essential; Arabic is an advantage;


• Must be flexible: willing to work long hours, weekends and be on call (periodically);

b. Technical skills:


• Computer literate: must be familiar with SAP/MAXIMO, MS Office,


• Ability to use tools, test equipment and calibration appliances;


• Understands chemistry, physics, electricity and mathematics;


• Understands water treatment equipment maintenance as related to high-pressure boilers, desalination, cooling water systems and water purification equipment;


• Is able to operate the plant from the Control Room as well as being able to analyze complex problems under the pressure of emergency conditions'

competent in one of the following trades:

  • Maintenance Mechanic;

  • Maintenance Electrician;

  • Instrument & Control Technician.


• Working knowledge of Environmental Regulations as they pertain to the operations and maintenance of an energy generating facility;


• Must be able to perform First Aid and CPR.


• Must have manual dexterity in order to operate keyboards, pushbuttons, dials, valves and mechanical actuating devices;


• Understand modern desalination process operating practice;


• Equipped with desalination plant engineering concepts;
